Last Wednesday, a recommendation for a change to the framework examination regulations was passed at the ZSK. To put it mildly, we find a lot of it rather unfavorable: the possible attendance requirement for seminars, the fact that we are only allowed to take 30 instead of 60 additional CPs, that the second examination phase is to be postponed to the following semester, that both registration and deregistration deadlines are to be moved forward and that all these deteriorations have no transitional periods.

All the changes that we had feared and against which we spoke out with an overwhelming majority at the student plenary sessions were therefore passed on to the Senate as recommendations by the Central Study Commission (ZSK) on Wednesday. We are shocked and disappointed by how the process went and how student opinions were dealt with. But we will not be defeated! The Senate will vote on the draft on July 10 and we intend to make a big show of it beforehand and show that we will not be satisfied with a university that is too rigid, lacking in solidarity and hierarchical.

  • You can submit your signatures against the changes. We have both a petition online as well as an analog student initiativewhich is anchored in the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act. You can find the analogous list of signatures in the AStA office, at university sports, at some events and at the vigil.
  • As of today, there will be a vigil in front of Building 9. There will be sofas there, you can paint banners and posters, discuss with each other (members of the Senate are also explicitly invited to exchange ideas with students), and also leave your signature.
  • On Tuesday at 7 pm there will be an episode of Katerfrüstück on the topic. Just tune in to 95.5 fm and listen to an exciting debate between students and lecturers!
  • On Wednesday, July 10, during the Senate meeting, we cordially invite you to take part in the vigil.
  • In between and again and again you can discuss with your lecturers, the list of senate members can also be found further down in the pad.
  • In addition to these protests, our student representatives in the Senate and other committees will of course do everything they can to get as many amendments through as possible.

And before we summarize our criticism of the process once again, we would first like to thank everyone who has already contributed so far – if the entire AStA office is full for a meeting in the penultimate week of university in the best Ilmenau weather, it shows how fatal the proposed changes are. And it also shows that we are not as lazy as some members of the ZSK seem to think.

What actually bothers us about the process?

At the beginning of the process, it was repeatedly noted from many sides that everything should be transparent and fair. This did not work out. For example, documents were sent to us too late and these documents mentioned changes that were never addressed in preliminary discussions. These and other changes were then not discussed sufficiently or at all during the meeting. The reason for this: no time. We are of the opinion that democratic processes should not be aborted due to a lack of time. Instead, another meeting should be scheduled.

In addition to our criticism of the process, we are also firmly opposed to the ZSK’s proposed changes. If you have any questions, please come to our vigil in front of Building 9.
