BAföG and student financing

BAföG is an important source of funding for many students! The AStA offers you a regular BAföG and financing consultation. Students of the Leuphana University of Lüneburg can take advantage of this free student counseling. We offer you advice on:

  • Initial and further funding applications
  • Funding beyond the maximum limit
  • Change of Major
  • Proof of achievement after the 4th semester for undergraduates
  • Earnings and asset limits for BAföG
  • Parent-dependent or parent-independent BAföG
  • BAföG abroad
  • Child allowances
  • Financing your studies without BAföG

Debt counseling

You are already in debt and are looking for a way out?

Schuldenhilfe Sofort Lüneburg offers people free and expert debt advice. You can find them at www.schuldenhilfe-sofort.de and you can reach them by emailing .

Psychological and social counseling (PSB)

Social counseling from the AStA: The AStA is also there for you if you have questions about various employment relationships as a student (e.g. mini-job, regular job, self-employment, internships), want to find out about compulsory health insurance for students (e.g. switching from family insurance), or have other general social questions. For student advice, please contact with your request.

Psychological counseling: exam nerves or learning difficulties; loneliness or lack of contact; problems with parents; stress with friends or in relationships; feelings of sadness, self-doubt or anxiety; fear of the future or lack of direction… Studying can also give rise to a wide variety of problems and difficulties. The Psychological Counseling Service (PBS) of the Studentenwerk Ostniedersachsen provides professional psychological specialists and trained staff to help with personal or study-related crises and is available to all students free of charge.

Legal Advice

Problems with lecturers? Issues with exams or other assessments? With your rental agreement or advice after a fender bender? Our legal advice service can help you with all legal questions. It offers all students the opportunity to obtain initial legal information free of charge and without obligation. For specific questions that they cannot answer immediately, they will refer you to a specialist lawyer.

The consultations always take place on Thursdays between 12 and 2 p.m. in the offices of the law firm Sieper & Lösing. Registration via our contact form is mandatory.

Studying with a child

You want to know how to reconcile family and studying? You are pregnant and need advice? The EliStu (Eltern im Studium) advice center will be happy to help you with any questions you may have about studying with a child. You can find advice here on topics such as

Studying with a disability

No one should be impaired by barriers or a disability in their everyday study life. More information on this topic can be found on the Leuphana website, created for (prospective) Leuphana students with disabilities or chronic illnesses. It is intended to help them find their way around the university and inform them about their rights.

The AStA’s free student advice service Studium-Barriere is aimed at students with chronic illnesses and/or physical/psychological impairments at Leuphana University of Lüneburg and offers a sympathetic ear, a conversation at eye level and information on possible courses of action. The AStA society ARCHIPEL also helps with questions about studying with chronic illness, handicaps and inclusion, mental illness, and learning disabilities.

Equal Opportunities Office & Ombudsperson

The Equal Opportunity Office is committed to equal opportunities and offers various counseling services on topics such as accessibility, disadvantage compensation, LGBTQIA, and anti-discrimination.

The ombudsperson for students and faculty, Thies Reinck, is considered a mediator as well as a moderator in conflict situations between different interest groups. Problems are handled anonymously and confidentially by the ombudsperson.

International students

The AStA department of the International Society and the AStA office team are good points of contact for international students and are on hand with help and advice to make the start of their studies as easy as possible.
